Cybersecurity Needs to Be a Priority for Everyone… Especially Your Business

Cybersecurity Needs to Be a Priority for Everyone… Especially Your Business

How often does your company take it upon itself to ensure that those working for its success—your employees—are kept up to speed on cybersecurity? If your approach is to have your team sit in a room and watch a presentation once a year, it’s time to reconsider your training strategy. Let’s talk about the impact that proper cybersecurity training can have, and who tends to have access to it.

How Accessible is Cybersecurity Training?

According to the National Cybersecurity Alliance and Cybsafe in their Annual Cybersecurity Attitudes and Behaviors Report 2022—entitled Oh, Behave! in a very self-aware reference to Austin Powers—not many people have access to cybersecurity training in general. As in, 62% of people don’t have this access. Fortunately, 30% of respondents did have access to training and did actively use it.

However, while cybersecurity is an issue that transcends business needs, the majority of training is overwhelmingly distributed amongst students and those who are employed, leaving others—such as retired individuals—with no access to training or cybersecurity advice. However, those that received training mostly did so through single courses, at 59%, while only 24% reportedly received training on a continuous basis.

This Research Also Revealed that Training Supports a Litany of More Secure Behaviors

Let’s just share some more of the statistics that this report included, specifically regarding those who have received cybersecurity training:

  • 40% of participants started using multi-factor authentication (reach out to us to learn more about MFA and its benefits)
  • 58% of participants reportedly improved their success rate at recognizing phishing messages
  • 35% of participants started using a password manager to save their credentials
  • 45% of participants improved their password practices
  • 40% of participants were inspired to install updates more diligently
  • 34% of participants adopted backup practices

The Moral of the Story: Cybersecurity Training is Worth It, for Everyone

While it would be better if everyone had access to the kind of training that would protect them from cyberattacks, that’s not something that we can feasibly do without your help. What we can do, however, is help you protect your business. Give us a call at 888-234-WDIT (9348) to get started today.
